Nancy Lynn Southard Parkerson, age 77, of Brodhead, Kentucky died Friday, April 10, 2020 after a long illness.
Nancy was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on July 24, 1942, the daughter of Boyd Southard and Martha Belcher Southard. Nancy married Buford Shannon Parkerson on August 3, 1963. She began her career with the Rockcastle County School System as a high school teacher at Livingston High/Grade School. Nancy became a high school/elementary school librarian, eventually retiring from Brodhead Elementary where she worked tirelessly to instill a love for books and learning in students of all ages.
When Nancy became a Christian in 1968, her love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her love of learning came together at her local church where she taught the adult Sunday school class for 30 years. In her 62 years of serving God in many capacities, Nancy was known for her joy, her love of Jesus, her servant’s heart, and her love for others. She enjoyed traveling, collecting Longaberger baskets, and was always up for an adventure.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Buford Parkerson. Survivors also include her sister Mary Kay Southard Insko of Lexington, her three children: daughter Shelley Parkerson of Mt. Vernon, son Shannon (Kim) Parkerson of Mount Vernon, and son Micah (Holly) Parkerson of Vancouver, British Columbia; her grandchildren: Corey Parkerson, Misty (Brett) Meeker, and Savannah (Todd) Miracle, as well as 5 great-grandchildren: Arizona Green, Nehemiah Miracle, twins Mia and Nora Miracle, and Owen Meeker.
