Mr. Larry Burdette age 71, of Mt.Vernon passed away Tuesday June 25, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. He was born on September 13, 1947 in Berea, Ky. the son of the late Arvel and Elsie Cornett Burdette. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a Charter Member of the Kiwanis Club, a Ky. Colonel, member of the American Legion, was a former city councilman, and served as a deacon in church for many years.
He began a career in broadcasting while still in high school at WRVK with Mr. John Lair. In addition to WRVK, he worked at other radio stations in Lancaster and Pineville, and was co-owner of a radio station in Corbin. He also worked at TV stations Channel 27 in Lexington and Channel 34 in Campbellsville. Larry and his wife, Gail, also owned and published The Citizen-Newsweek newspaper and the The Banner consumer newspaper. Later on, while disabled, he built and operated three internet radio stations for a short time, and was a member of the New Heights Church.
Survivors are: his wife of 51 years; Mrs. Gail Falin Burdette of Mt.Vernon. Three sons; Dwayne Burdette, Chad Burdette (Jennifer), and Jon Burdette (Amy). Two brothers; Gary Burdette (Linda), and Clyde Burdette (Betty). One sister; Janice Chasteen (Steve). Eight grandchildren; Katie, Brandon, Allison, Chase, Faith, Evan, Abby, and Shailynn, and by one great grandchild; Layne. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by one great grandchild: Oakley.
Funeral services for Mr. Larry Burdette will be conducted 11 AM Saturday June 29, 2019 at the Bible Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Burdette & Bro. Jon Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Cox Funeral Home. Friends may visit at the church from 6 to 9 PM on Friday, and after 10 AM until time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to: New Heights Church or Hospice in Larry’s memory.
