Elva Lena Marcum

Mrs. Elva Lena Marcum age 77, of Mt.Vernon, Ky. passed away on Friday January 31, 2020 at the Saint Joseph East Hospital in Lexington. She was born on March 23, 1942 in Mt.Vernon the daughter of the late Russell and Christine Sowder Payne. She was a homemaker, she loved the Lord & reading her bible, enjoyed reminiscing about the past, playing bingo, and her family was her life.   

            Survivors are: five daughters; Connie Mayo & (Raymond) of Fl., Teresa Cunagin & (Archie) of Mt.Vernon, Sharon Weiss & (Richard) of Richmond, Leona Martin & (Chris) of TN, and Julie Matlock of IL. Six sons; Michael Cunagin & (Sharon) of Brodhead, Charles Cunagin & (Teresa) of Mt.Vernon, Larry Tompkins & (Greta) of Pine Hill, Garrett Tompkins & (Sherry) of Brodhead, Derek Tompkins & (Melissa) of London, and Dino Marcum & (Chastity) of OH. Three brothers; Claude Payne & (Pat) of OH, Robert Payne & (Lucy) of Somerset, and Dennis Payne of Mt.Vernon. Three sisters; Wanda Gentry & (Bentley) of IL, Lorene Dick & (James) of OH, and Brenda Pelletier & (Mike) of Maysville, and one aunt; Roxy Kirby of Richmond. 34 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: 4 sons; Roger & Marvin Cunagin, Steven Tompkins, and Merle Marcum, by 3 husbands; Wiley Cunagin, Thurman Tompkins, and Danny Marcum, by 2 grandchildren; Tanya Vanwinkle, and Amberly Northern, by 2 sisters; Verla Hampton and Mary Elizabeth Deel, by 2 brothers; Arie Smith, and Elsie Payne, and by 3 nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Elva Lena Marcum will be conducted 1 PM Tuesday February 4, 2020 at the Cox Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Morning View Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Cox Funeral Home where friends may visit from 6 to 9 PM on Monday.
