Mr. Jim Earl Hammons age 82, of Mt.Vernon, KY passed away Sunday April 16, 2017 at the V. A. Hospital in Lexington. He was born on October 13, 1934 in Pineville, KY the son of the late Earl and Pat Young Hammons. He worked for the Standard Oil & Chevron Company for 45 years, and was co-owner of J & L Equipment. He was a long time supporter of Rockcastle County High School Football, dating back to the days of Mt.Vernon High School. Jim Earl started the Pee Wee Football Program in 1970 with 4th & 5th grade boys from Mt.Vernon, Roundstone, Brodhead, and Livingston. His booming voice was heard for years at RCHS home games. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended high school at the Kentucky Military Institute, and served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. He actively served the Lord his entire life both locally and abroad.

He leaves behind: four children; daughter; Roxanne Hammond and husband Eddie, son; Earl Lewis and wife Beverly, daughter; Lynnell Fields, and son; Bobby Hammons. Sister; Edith Ivey. Brother-in-laws; Tommy Gay, and Bobby Gay. sister-in-laws; Linda Simmons and Rosa Lee Jasper. 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren also survive. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife; Libby Gay Hammons.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the following charities. Global Outreach International in c/o Lynnell Fields, the Athletic Influencers in c/o Andrew Hammond, or Berea Baptist Food Bank in c/o Roxanne Hammons.
